In 2021 we were delighted to be asked by our client TED to provide audio visual support and technical production for the TED Countdown Summit 2021, taking place in Edinburgh ahead of the COP26 Summit.
TED has been a long-standing client of PSP’s and being able to work on one of the first live TED events post pandemic was music to all our ears. To keep everyone as safe as possible all crew and delegates were required to take a Covid test every 72 hours.
This live event consisted of 3 days setting up, 2 days of technical checks and rehearsals and then 4 live show days. With an audience of 700 people there really was a truly fantastic atmosphere as the long-awaited return of larger live events was finally here!
The 4 live event days consisted of a total of 64 presenters, artists and performers and what a show it was! From leading political figures and Climate change pioneers such as S Amina J. Mohammed - UN Deputy Secretary-General, Nicola Sturgeon - First Minister of Scotland, Vera Songwe - UN Under-Secretary General and Al Gore - Climate advocate to name a few. To outstanding entertainment, Indie pop band Belle and Sebastian, the creative dance group Let It Happen and the talented musicians Hannah Fisher and Sorren Maclean.
You may be wondering how we made this happen. From initial brief here at PSP our dedicated Project Management team work closely with clients to make event visions become reality. Mike Featherstone works closely with TED on their projects and did so with this exciting event, pulling together a 15 strong crew and providing a great deal of kit to make the event come to life. Comprising of;
- 6 broadcast cameras with twin console Grass Valley Kayenne K-frame Switcher
- Video and Data switching via Barco E2 and S3 switchers and signal distribution using Riedel Mediornet Compact Pro fibre system

The Ted Countdown Summit was a huge success and an incredible event to be a part of not only due to our relationship with TED but also because of the topic; at PSP we are on a journey to deliver and support more sustainable events. We understand that reducing the negative environmental impacts is important for our stakeholders including our clients. Here at PSP we are making concerted efforts to improve our performance across a range of ESG issues throughout the organisation and supply chain. From switching to more energy efficient technology, to reducing waste and increasing the reuse of materials. All of our ESG initiatives align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals which set a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for us all.
